Parking

Description of Section

This includes the number of accessible spaces, the distance of the accessible spaces from the accessible entrance, and the accessibility of the path from the accessible spaces to the sidewalk that the entrance is on (includes curb ramps).

Details

  • There are two standard accessible spaces that are about 190 feet away from the entrance, and the pathway to get on the sidewalk from the parking space is not inclined or bumpy

  • There are 3 more accessible spaces across the street from the Train Station, 2 of them are van accessible, that are about 220 feet away from the entrance, and the first sidewalk before crossing the street is a little steep without handrails

  • All curb ramps are accessible

Entrance

Description of Section

This includes how easy it is to find the accessible entrance, steps/ramps/pathways from the curb ramp/sidewalk to the door, width of entrance door, lip under the entrance door, presence of automatic door openers, reachability of the door handle, and the weight of the door.

Details

  • The entrance does not have an automatic door

  • The door is not too heavy, but not extremely easy to open either

  • The door has to be unlocked and then locked when visitors are finished, which requires twisting of the wrist

  • The door opening is 33 inches wide and the lip underneath the door is not difficult to navigate over, but there is a rug immediately inside the entrance

  • There is an entrance ramp to get to the entrance door from the sidewalk, the entrance ramp is accessible and has the proper slope, width, and handrails on both sides

  • There is no signage to help direct people to the entrance ramp from the accessible parking spaces

  • The handrail extension from the entrance ramp is infringing a little on the maneuvering clearance on the outside of the entrance door, but the inside of the door has adequate maneuvering clearance

Water/ Refreshments

Description of Section

This includes the accessibility of water fountains/drinking coolers (height off the ground & space around), the accessibility of any kitchen spaces, and the reachability of complimentary items in the kitchen.

Details

  • There are two water fountains between the two bathrooms near the entrance door, both are accessible

  • There are a couple items in the kitchen, such as the sink, the freezer, the light switches, the items above the counter and in the upper cabinets, etc. that could be considered difficult to reach or see

Interior Pathways

Description of Section

This includes accessibility of lifts/ramps/elevators, signage to find accessibility features, widths of pathways, cleanliness of pathways, how steep pathways are, presence of inaccessible areas, and the weight/lip/height of handles & knobs of doors not covered by other sections.

Details

  • Almost all pathways are more than 36 inches wide

  • The floor surfaces and the door thresholds are all easy to navigate over

  • The historic side of the Train Station, which is on the right side after you enter, has doorframes that are less than 30 inches wide

  • Some of the doors, such as the bathroom doors, could be considered difficult to open, force-wise

  • The ramp to access the bathrooms from the exterior of the building does not have handrails

Seating

Description of Section

This includes if there is seating that is removable and accessible in all functional areas.

Details

  • All seating areas have accessible seating options

  • All of the chairs that go around the tables are easy to move and rearrange

Section

Bathroom

Description of Section

This includes bathrooms being labeled as accessible, the width of bathroom and accessible stall doors, location of doors, height of door openers off the floor, weight of doors, presence of appropriate grab bars, the ability for a customer using a wheelchair to completely turn around in the bathroom/accessible stall, the height of the flush controls off the floor, the reachability of the sink/toilet paper/soap/drying equipment/lights, and the height of mirrors off the floor.

Details

  • The bathroom is spacious and has the appropriate grab bars

  • The toilet paper is 42 inches above the bathroom floor and could be considered difficult to reach

  • The sink, light switches, soap, mirror, and drying equipment are at accessible heights off the bathroom floor

  • The piping underneath the sinks is completely insulated, but it’s possible a small, lightweight trash can could be in the way of an approach to the sink

  • The bathroom doors are about 32-33 inches wide, the handles and locks are accessible, but the doors could be considered difficult to open force-wise

  • The maneuvering clearance to open the bathroom door could be infringed by the water fountains inside the Train Station

This includes the presence of accessibility features to make this establishment go above and beyond the accessibility of other establishments of the same type.

Details

  • There are baby-sized changing tables in the bathrooms
