Parking

Description of Section

This includes the number of accessible spaces, the distance of the accessible spaces from the accessible entrance, and the accessibility of the path from the accessible spaces to the sidewalk that the entrance is on (includes curb ramps).

Details

  • There are 6 accessible parking spaces, the farthest ones from the main entrance are 200-300 feet away from the entrance, the rest are about 100-200 feet away

  • There is no curb cut to get from the accessible parking spaces to the front "accessible entrance" and the pathway is very steep

Entrance

Description of Section

This includes how easy it is to find the accessible entrance, steps/ramps/pathways from the curb ramp/sidewalk to the door, width of entrance door, lip under the entrance door, presence of automatic door openers, reachability of the door handle, and the weight of the door.

Details

  • The main entrance (only one labeled as an accessible entrance) has an automatic door

  • The door is wide enough and the lip underneath the door is not hard to navigate over

  • There is a slight incline to get to the door from the “Guest Registration Parking” sidewalk

Check-in Counter

Description of Section

This includes the reachability of merchandise/presence of employees near merchandise area/presence of bags with handles to carry merchandise (if there is merchandise to buy where guests pay at the check-in counter), the height of the counter which customers pay/check-in at, and the presence of a removable tablet/card reader.

Details

  • The check-in counters have surfaces at accessible heights off the floor

  • Some merchandise is unreachable and could be considered too heavy, however there are employees around the merchandise area that are ready to help however they can

  • There are bags with handles available to carry merchandise around

Interior Pathways

Description of Section

This includes accessibility of lifts/ramps/elevators, signage to find accessibility features, widths of pathways, cleanliness of pathways, how steep pathways are, presence of inaccessible areas, and the weight/lip/height of handles & knobs of doors not covered by other sections.

Details

  • All pathways are more than 3 feet wide

  • The ramp in the lobby area to the courtyard is not too steep and has handrails

  • The elevator has reachable buttons and handrails, and is spacious

  • The non-main entrance doors to get inside the hotel are heavy and the room key readers could be considered unreachable

Lounge

Description of Section

This includes the movability of seating and the height of tables in the lounge areas.

Details

  • Seats are movable in the lounging areas, but not easily movable

  • There are tables and other surfaces at accessible heights in the lounging areas

Lobby Bathroom

Description of Section

This includes bathrooms being labeled as accessible, the width of bathroom and accessible stall doors, location of doors, height of door openers off the floor, weight of doors, presence of appropriate grab bars, the ability for a customer using a wheelchair to completely turn around in the bathroom/accessible stall, the height of the flush controls off the floor, the reachability of the sink/toilet paper/soap/drying equipment/lights, and the height of mirrors off the floor.

Details

  • Accessible stalls in the lobby bathrooms are spacious and have the appropriate grab bars

  • The toilet paper is 9-15 inches away from the front of the toilet

  • The sink and drying equipment are reachable, however the soap could be difficult to reach for some guests

  • The bathroom doors are not too heavy

  • The mirrors are at an accessible height

Business Center

Description of Section

This includes the height of the table/desk surface off of the floor, if the chair can be removed easily, the reachability of everything, the presence of a phone to call the front desk, and the accessibility of the bathroom if there is one in this area.

Details

  • There is a desk/table at an accessible height off the floor

  • The chairs are easily movable at the desk/table

  • Everything is reachable in this area

  • There is a phone at an accessible height in this area

Section

Fitness Center

Description of Section

This includes the presence of reachable dumbbells, the presence of reachable medicine balls, the accessibility of the pathways to the equipment, the accessibility of the water fountain/drinking cooler if there is one (height off the ground & space around), the presence of a phone to call the front desk, the reachability of everything, and the accessibility of the bathroom if there is one in this area.

Details

  • The door to the fitness center is a little heavy, but has a handle/room key reader at an accessible height

  • There are dumbbells that are reachable

  • There are not medicine balls

  • At least one of every type of equipment/machine has an accessible pathway and space next to it

  • There is a water cooler at an accessible height

  • Everything is reachable in this area

  • There is a phone at an accessible height in this area

Pool

Description of Section

This includes the presence of a pool lift, if the pool lift is working or not, if there is an employee that is helpful with the pool lift if an employee is needed, the presence of a phone to call the front desk, the accessibility of pathways around the pool, the reachability of everything in the pool area, and the accessibility of the bathroom if there is one in this area.

Details

  • The door to the pool is a little heavy, but has a handle/room key reader at an accessible height

  • There is a working pool lift

  • There is a phone at an accessible height in this area

  • There are accessible pathways to everything in the pool area

  • Everything is reachable

  • There is a bathroom which is accessible in the pool area

Food/Drink

Description of Section

This includes things such as free meals that are included with your stay at the hotel (such as free breakfast) AND/OR a small included section of the hotel where you can buy food/drink (such as a Starbucks) which doesn't attract customers that aren't hotel guests. Specifically, we take into consideration: the presence of table service, the height of food and drink counters, the reachability of everything, the presence of employees in the area, the presence of trays to transport food and drinks, if you can leave dishes/trash at your table or not, the accessibility of seating and tables, and the accessibility of the bathroom if there is one in this area.

Details

  • Neither food nor drinks are delivered in the Starbucks/Bistro area

  • The counter to order, pay, and pick up food is at an accessible height

  • The coffee creamer, sugar, and other supplies for making coffee could be pushed forward and put on the more accessible surface

  • There is accessible seating and tables

  • There are not trays

  • Someone is nearby the area to help

  • You can leave dishes and trash at your table

Laundry

Description of Section

This includes the presence of a phone to call the front desk, the space in the guest laundry room and around the machines, and the reachability of everything in this area.

Details

  • The door to the guest laundry room is a little heavy, but has a handle/room key reader at an accessible height

  • There is a phone at an accessible height right outside the laundry room

  • There is a pathway at least 3 feet wide to get through the guest laundry room

  • There is not one of each machine (washer and dryer) at an accessible height

  • Everything else is reachable in this area

Section

Rooms

Description of Section

This includes the number of accessible rooms (with and without roll-in showers), the ability of the hotel to save the correct type of accessible room, the presence of a second bed for companions in the accessible rooms, the weight of the doors in the accessible rooms, the accessibility of the bathrooms (besides the tub/shower), the reachability of everything in the accessible rooms, and the width of the pathways in the accessible rooms.

Details

  • The hotel has more than the required number of accessible rooms with tubs

  • The hotel saves the type of room you reserved (if reservations are made through the Marriott website)

  • Rooms don’t have pull-out couches for companions

  • Rooms doors are not too heavy

  • The bathrooms (tub and roll-in showers are not covered in this section) are accessible in the accessible rooms

  • Everything is reachable in the accessible rooms

  • Accessible rooms with King beds have a 36-inch wide path on 3 sides of them, whereas the rooms with two beds in them might not have accessible paths on the sides of them near the walls of the room

  • All other pathways in the accessible rooms are at least 3 feet wide

Roll-in Shower

Description of Section

This includes the presence of a fold-down bench, the spaciousness of the shower, the number of grab bars in the shower, the type and dimensions of fold-down seats, the ability to get a roll-in shower with the bench you wanted if you requested it, how much weight the fold-down bench/shower seat can hold, what the shower bench/seat is made out of, the height of the bench/seat off the bathroom floor, the type of showerhead, the reachability of the showerhead and all the controls, how high the shower floor is off the bathroom floor, and the presence of a soap/shampoo/conditioner holder at an accessible height.

Details

  • There are fold-down benches in all the roll-in showers which are L-shaped

  • The roll-in showers are spacious and have the appropriate grab bars

  • Hotel gives you a roll-in shower if you ask for one

  • The fold-down benches can support at least 250 pounds, are slip-resistant, are not made out of wood, have seat surfaces 17-19 inches off the floor

  • The roll-in showers have shower heads that can both be fixed in position and hand-held

  • The controls are reachable, more reachable in the Double Double Accessible room with a roll-in shower

  • The roll-in shower floors are less than 1/2 inch off the bathroom floors

  • There is a holder for soap/shampoo/conditioner at an accessible height

Accessible Room Tub

Description of Section

This includes the presence of a shower chair or a fold-down bench, what the bench/seat is made out of, the height of the bench/seat off the bathroom floor, the dimensions of the shower seat/bench, the presence of a back on shower chair if one is used, the pathway next to the tub, the number and position of grab bars, the type of showerhead, the reachability of the showerhead and all the controls, how much weight the bench/chair can hold, the reachability of the drain stopper, and the presence of a soap/shampoo/conditioner holder at an accessible height.

Details

  • There are fold-down benches in some accessible room tubs, and some with shower chairs

  • The tubs have the appropriate grab bars

  • The fold-down benches and shower chairs can support at least 250 pounds, are slip-resistant, are not made out of wood, have seat surfaces 17-19 inches off the floor, and have seat surfaces that are at least 15 inches wide

  • The shower chairs do not have backs on them

  • There are pathways that are at least 3 feet wide next to the accessible room tubs

  • The accessible room tubs have shower heads that can both be fixed in position and hand-held

  • The controls and drain stopper could be considered difficult to reach for some guests from the fold-down benches

  • There is not a holder for soap/shampoo/conditioner at an accessible height in all accessible room tubs

Description of Section

This includes how helpful and polite employees are (our speciality)!

Details

  • Employees acknowledge, are nice to, and offer some assistance to customers with mobility issues, however could offer more assistance (such as helping with bags)

This includes the presence of accessibility features to make this establishment go above and beyond the accessibility of other establishments of the same type.

Details

  • There are hooks at accessible heights on the accessible stalls’ doors in the lobby bathrooms

  • There are towel racks at accessible heights in the bathrooms in the accessible rooms

  • There are plastic/paper lightweight cups, lids, and straws at Starbucks/Bistro area

  • There are bags with handles for items bought at Starbucks/The Bistro and The Market

  • There are full-length mirrors in accessible rooms

  • There is a wheelchair and a step stool at the hotel
