Shown is the entrance to the Swift Creek Mill Theatre parking lot, located on Route 1. There is a large white sign with black text that identifies the property as "Swift Creek Mill Theatre", and there are two buildings. The building on the left is primarily used for buying tickets to showings when the building on the right is not selling tickets (bigger building on the right is usually selling tickets 2 hours before a showing up until the showing starts). There is an informational sign about the property in the grass below the large "Swift Creek Mill Theatre" sign.
Shown is the informational sign about the property in the grass below the big "Swift Creek Mill Theatre" sign. If seeking a private, quiet space, the area around this sign in the parking lot may be a potential option. However, there is: no seating near this sign, a large lip and a grass hill to get up to the sign, limited color contrasting on the sign, and no braille, tactile, digital, or audio alternatives for the information on this sign.
Shown is the bigger building on the right, which is the main building because dinner and performances are held in here. There are 2 spaces right in front of the building that are labeled as accessible with paint on the parking lot surface and signage. Both of the spaces meet the requirements for standard accessible spaces, not van accessible spaces, and the access aisles are parallel and adjacent to the brick sidewalk that leads to the entrance and exit doors. Both spaces have wheel stoppers near the accessible parking signs that are color contrasted and centered in the spaces. Also, there are 3 non-automatic doors on the building shown in this picture, 1 red one on the left and 2 gray ones on the right. The middle door is the typical main entrance for visitors, but we will show the red door on the left first as that is the closest door to the accessible parking space shown on the left in this picture. There is no signage to help direct visitors to any of the doors, although we were told that sometimes when the weather is nice and the building is open, the middle door will be propped open.
Shown is a closer view of the pathway to the red door from the accessible parking space shown on the left in the last picture. Starting from the access aisle, the pathway until the red door has cross slopes on both sides that angle down, inwards to the middle of the pathway, of about 1.6-6.1%. The pathway is greater than 36 inches the whole time, and the access aisle transitions to a brick surface that is slightly rough. There could be up to 1 inch of horizontal space between the bricks and up to 0.5 inches of a vertical change in level both at the start of the brick pathway and between the bricks as well. There is a black drain on this pathway, closer to the door that causes a 0.25 inch change in vertical level and may move very slightly when navigating over top of it. The door itself has a door handle to pull the door open to enter, which is at an accessible height and does not require pinching, grasping, or twisting of the wrist. Next to the door, the maneuvering clearance to pull it open is more than 60 inches deep, but is only 10.5 inches wide.

Accessibility Notes
Staff is friendly, and ready to help however they can. For example, staff can help open and close any doors, help you find quiet areas if needed, etc.
There are infrared systems available as an adaptive listening system upon request for the theater, and we were told there are some showings that have sign language interpreters at them. We suggest reaching out to Swift Creek at (804) 748-5203 to learn more about these offerings.
There are plastic cups, straws, and lids available for the beverages served.
A grabber tool is available upon request, if needed for reaching items.
Trays are available for carrying snacks and smaller items during intermission.
The location is service animal friendly and pet friendly as long as they are trained and under control.
Bags with handles are available for any purchases in the gift shop area to make carrying items easier.
There is a parking area less than 25 feet from the main entrance with two total accessible spaces, one of which is labeled as van accessible, but does not meet the requirements for the larger access aisle needed for a van accessible space.
The surface of the accessible parking spaces is asphalt, with a cross slope greater than two percent in some parts of both of the accessible spaces and access aisles.
There are also no tactile domes at the transition from the parking lot to the sidewalk, and the two surfaces are level with each other-having no curb or curb ramp.
There is a box office building to the left of the main building, as you face the buildings, that is only open at select times when the theater is not open and primarily serves as a place to purchase tickets.
The easiest and most convenient way to buy tickets is likely online or over the phone.
The box office building has a ramp and a staircase to access it, whichever is preferred.
There are two brick pathways up to two different doors of the main theater building that are less than 25 feet from the parking lot.
Some of the bricks have a vertical change in height and/or have a cross-slope greater than two percent.
Seating is available on the front porch of the smaller box office building, slightly below an accessible height, with a backrest and armrests.
The entrance into the box office building has a thirty-three inch clear width doorway, about a two inch threshold inside the door, and the door is fairly easy to open, with door hardware at an accessible height.
The two main entrance doors to the theater, both on the left side as you face the building, have slight thresholds, with the leftmost door having the lower threshold of about half an inch.
Both doors have a clear width of 32 inches, are fairly heavy, have limited maneuvering clearance to pull the doors open to enter, and have door hardware at an accessible height.
Once inside either building, the flooring surface is a mix of smooth wood flooring, tile, concrete, and compact, low profile carpet and entrance rugs.
Interior pathways are mostly 36 inches wide or greater, with a few exceptions around tables in the dining room.
Interior flooring transitions and thresholds are minimal except for the transition from the tile to the wood floor near the staircase in the main building.
There are some protruding objects that hang off the wall near the front desk area and the pathway that leads into the dining room, as well as the paper towel dispensers in the bathrooms when there are no trash cans underneath them.
There is plenty of seating throughout the theater and dining areas, most of which is at an accessible height, and the seats in the theater have armrests and backrests.
The theater has plenty of accessible seating, mostly in the front, with spaces available for wheelchairs and seats on the ends of rows where you can transition from a mobility device to a theater seat.
The point of sale counters at the main entrance desk and at the back of the restaurant area are above an accessible height. There is an accessible height point of sale counter in the box office building.
The card readers are movable, and staff can assist with credit card purchases if needed.
There is some merchandise in the gift shop area that may be difficult to reach or heavy for some, but staff is able to assist if needed.
There is an elevator in the theater building which provides access to the main level and upper floor (the theater is accessed from the upper level), but not to the lower level, which serves as an event space.
There is a staircase which provides access to all three levels.
Signage is limited, generally, throughout. There is some directional signage directing visitors and patrons to the restrooms on the main level.
The site is fairly busy around showtimes.
There are quiet spaces available on the lower level of the main building, or the dining room if it’s past dinner, and outside on the front porch of the box office building, or at the bottom of the exit stairs from the theater. Ask staff for a more quiet, private space if needed.
Windows have shutters on the first floor of the main building, but nothing upstairs.
Blinds for the lower level of the box office building were being ordered at the time of our assessment.
Restrooms are generally accessible on the main floor of the theater building, with two gendered, multi restrooms, one men’s and one women’s room with grab bars around the toilet.
The lower level also has accessible restrooms, but no stair free route to access them.
