Accessibility Notes

  • Staff is friendly, and ready to help however they can. For example, staff can help: open and close any doors, help you find quiet areas if needed, etc.

  • There is a wheelchair available upon request (we recommend calling ahead if you need to use it), and there is a step stool in the visitor center, if needed.

  • There are 2 standard street accessible spaces west of the church on N 24th Street, less than 100 feet away from the main accessible entrance.

  • There is an elevator that serves as the most accessible, stair free entrance into the site, and one other entrance into the site, on E Broad Street, if stairs are not an issue.

  • The surfaces of the location’s outdoor paths are mostly bumpy and uneven brick pathways that are at least 36 inches wide, and the interior space of the church is carpeted, while the restroom and visitor center are tiled and hardwood floors, respectively.

  • Some of the staircases and ramps on site do not have handrails or handrail extensions, and some of the pathways are fairly steep, which may be a challenge for some, so use caution when navigating the site.

  • The main interior pathways of the church are at least 36 inches wide, and there is accessible seating available within the church for visitors using mobility devices.

  • There are a couple outdoor seating options available (benches with backs and armrests), with seating surfaces at accessible heights, some are off of the main pathways in the grass.

  • The visitor center has a rug that is relatively low profile but could be easily moved.

  • The point of sale counter may be a bit high for some individuals, and the card reader is easily movable.

  • There is some merchandise in the visitor center which may be difficult to reach for some, but staff are more than happy to help upon request.

  • The site is generally quiet and not too hectic or highly trafficked, except during reenactments, however there is a quiet space available in the church and outside on grounds of the site- ask staff for a more quiet, private space if needed.

  • Windows in the visitor center have blinds if a darker space is needed.

  • There are two gendered, multi-stall restrooms, one male and one female.

  • There is space within the men's restroom for a visitor using a mobility device to turn around, but it may be slightly more challenging to do this outside of the stalls in the women's restroom.

  • The restroom stalls may be difficult to use for those using mobility devices as they are less than 50 inches wide, providing little to no turning space in the stalls themselves. However, there are grab bars in both of the accessible stalls, and the sinks, soap and hand dryers are all at accessible heights in both restrooms and the lights are automatic. Be mindful of the exposed piping under the sink.
