  • Both the entrance and the exit have two automatic doors, there are two mats between the doors

  • The door openings are about 32 inches wide and the lips underneath the doors are not hard to navigate over

  • The path is neither bumpy nor inclined upwards when getting to the door after one is on the sidewalk

This includes the accessibility of water fountains/drinking coolers (height off the ground & space around), the reachability of complimentary water/refreshments/samples, and whether or not employees get and transport complimentary water/refreshments/samples for you.

  • There is one water fountain between the Men’s and Women’s bathrooms which is at an accessible height with leg/foot room

  • There is also a counter in the cafe with cups and a water dispenser that could be considered difficult to reach for some customers

  • Samples are handed to customers in the sushi area, are placed on a surface at an inaccessible height in the bakery and deli areas, and are placed on a surface at an accessible height in the cheese area

Description of Section

This section refers to food and drinks that are meant to be consumed as soon as you buy it (such as ice cream in a candy shop or a Starbucks in a grocery store). We take into consideration: the reachability of everything, the height of the point of sale off the floor, if employees offer to deliver food/drinks to customers, the accessibility of tables and seating, the presence of trays, and if you can leave dishes/trash at the table.

  • There are some items that are unreachable in the Flavors Cafe, but staff is more than happy to help get, transport, or make anything

  • There are not trays in this area

  • You can leave your trash and dishes at your table, and the employees are more than happy to clean up for you

  • Almost all pathways are at least 3 feet wide besides a couple exceptions in the main grocery section

  • There are a couple tight aisles in the wine section, clothing section, produce section, and the seating in the cafe if it is busy

  • There are no inaccessible areas inside the store

  • There is a wheelchair and there are seats in the cafe area that employees are more than willing to bring to customers if needed

Description of Section

This includes the height of the counters where customers pay at, the reachability of everything at the point of sale counters, the presence of a removable tablet/card reader, and if customers are offered bags with handles.

  • The point of sale counters are at good heights in the grocery area

  • We consider the card readers in the grocery point of sale area reachable, but the card readers’ screens and buttons could be considered hard to see

  • There are bags with handles

Bathroom

Description of Section

This includes bathrooms being labeled as accessible, the width of bathroom and accessible stall doors, location of doors, height of door openers off the floor, weight of doors, presence of appropriate grab bars, the ability for a customer using a wheelchair to completely turn around in the bathroom/accessible stall, the height of the flush controls off the floor, the reachability of the sink/toilet paper/soap/drying equipment/lights, and the height of mirrors off the floor.

Justification of Score

  • There are two bathrooms (men’s and women’s), which are not labeled as accessible

  • The women’s bathroom has two pieces of furniture which make it difficult to transfer to the toilet, turn around, and get to the sink whereas customers using wheelchairs can do a 360 degree turn in the men’s bathroom with one piece of furniture in the room, depending on the size of the wheelchair

  • Each bathroom has 2 grab bars around the toilet

  • The toilet paper is 9-15 inches from the fronts of the toilets

  • The lights are always kept on in the bathrooms

  • The sink are at accessible heights in both bathrooms, the soap dispenser is at an accessible height in the Men’s bathroom (and not the Women’s), but the paper towel dispensers and mirrors are not at accessible heights in both of the bathrooms.

  • The bathroom doors are not heavy or difficult to open, and have: wide doorways, no lips under the doors, and handles at accessible heights
